The short version. If we've emailed you or contacted you on LinkedIn, it's because your role at your company makes our service, or a client's service, likely to be relevant. We hold only basic business contact details. You can tell us to stop at any time by replying "stop" to our email or LinkedIn message, or by emailing joe@pipenorth.com, and we will.
Who we are
The controller of your personal data is Joe Williams, trading as Pipenorth, based in Woking, Surrey, United Kingdom. Pipenorth runs outbound prospecting, by email and LinkedIn, and books sales meetings for UK B2B businesses.

What this notice covers
This notice explains how we handle the personal data of people we contact for business-to-business (B2B) prospecting, people who contact us, and visitors to this website.
When we run outreach on behalf of a client, that client usually decides who is contacted and why, so they are the controller and their own privacy notice also applies. In that case we act as their processor, under a written agreement. Each email or LinkedIn message will make clear which company it is from. LinkedIn messages in a client campaign are sent from the client's own profile. If you're not sure, ask us and we'll tell you.
What we hold
- Your name and job title
- Your business email address
- The company you work for, and its public business details such as website, address and size
- Your public LinkedIn profile address, if we contact you there
- A record of our emails and LinkedIn messages with you, including whether you replied and whether you asked us to stop
We do not seek out or hold sensitive data (such as health, religion or political views), personal home addresses or personal email addresses. We do not use tracking pixels in our prospecting emails.
Where we get it
- Companies House: public company records, including officers' names and roles
- Company websites: published team pages and contact details
- LinkedIn: public profiles and company pages, looked up by a person. We do not scrape LinkedIn or use automation tools on it.
- Business data providers: services that find and verify business email addresses
- You: if you reply to us, contact us or book a call
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
We use your details to contact you by email or LinkedIn about B2B services that are relevant to your role, to handle your replies, to arrange meetings you agree to, and to keep a record of anyone who has asked not to be contacted.
Our lawful basis under UK GDPR is legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)): our interest, and our clients' interest, in reaching businesses that may want their services. We have weighed this against your interests. We limit what we hold to business contact details, contact people only where their role makes the message relevant, keep the number of emails small, and make opting out easy.
Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), we send unsolicited marketing emails only to corporate subscribers, such as limited companies and LLPs. We do not send them to sole traders or other partnerships without consent.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data. We share it only with:
- Service providers who help us run the service, such as email hosting, email-sending software, a CRM, and email-finding and verification tools. LinkedIn also processes the messages we exchange with you there, under its own privacy policy. They act on our instructions.
- The client a campaign is run for, where you've agreed to a meeting with them or your reply relates to their service.
- Authorities, if the law requires it.
Some providers may process data outside the UK, for example in the United States. Where they do, we rely on the safeguards UK law requires, such as the UK government's adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum.
How long we keep it
- Prospect details: up to 12 months after our last contact with you, unless you become a client or ask us to delete them sooner.
- Opt-out list: if you ask us to stop, we keep the minimum needed (your email address and company) on a suppression list so we don't contact you again. That's the only reason we keep it.
- Client and supplier records: for as long as the business relationship lasts, then for as long as the law requires, usually six years for accounting records.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Object to us using your data for direct marketing. This right is absolute: if you object, we stop.
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct data that is wrong or incomplete.
- Erase your data, where there's no good reason for us to keep it.
- Restrict how we use your data in some circumstances.
- Object to other processing based on legitimate interests.
To opt out, reply "stop" to any of our emails or LinkedIn messages, or email joe@pipenorth.com. For any other request, email the same address. There's no charge, and we'll respond within one month.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first and we'll try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK regulator for data protection:
